Thank You All for Supporting Us and for your help in pushing a YES vote through on May 22!

Marriage Equality Referendum

On May 22nd, 2015, Irish citizens will be asked to vote YES on the thirty-fourth Amendment of the Constitution (Marriage Equality) Bill 2015.

Marriage is about two people who love each other and want to commit to each other. In a republic based on equal citizenship, civil marriage should be open to all.

This is a vote about real people and real families. It’s about people that we know; our family members, friends, neighbours and colleagues. Irish people are fair minded, welcoming and confident.

Voting YES will not take from no one. This referendum relates to civil marriage in a registry office, not a religious marriage. Churches cannot be forced to marry anyone and will not be affected in any way.

The Marriage Equality Referendum seeks to insert a new sentence into the Constitution:

Marriage may be contracted in accordance with law by two persons without distinction as to their sex.

Voting YES in the Marriage Equality Referendum will be saying yes to marriage, yes to equality and yes to strengthening Irish society.
