The 8 Rays Leitrim Acting-Committee have been very busy organising events and activities for you and your friends and family.
We are always open to suggestions and ideas – and remember we don’t check your “LGBTIQ status” on the door so you don’t need to identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans*, intersex and/or queer to participate! – we’d love to hear from you!

Monthly Social
One of the more regular events in our Monthly Social. This is held in Paddy’s Bar, Main Street, Carrick-on-Shannon every Second Sunday of the Month between 2pm – 4.30pm*.
From August onwards the Committee will be opening the hour before the Monthly Socials to host an Open Forum, so that we can make more time for socialising but also allow more time for members of the community to pose questions and hear developments.
Remaining Dates for the Monthly Social 2015:
- August 9th – Pre-Pride in Carrick. Details coming soon.
- September 13th
- October 11th
- November 8th
- December 13th – Christmas Special
During the Monthly Socials we aim to offer music, games, refreshments and much more. Be it the humble game of chess or an epic game of Dungeons’n’Dragons to poetry slam sessions, karaoke or acoustic sessions from burgeoning artists and performers – we’re open to all suggestions and ideas!
Structuring 8 Rays Leitrim
As may have been noted in our About section under The Committee, 8 Rays Leitrim is currently operating as an interim or acting-Committee. Having a committee for a group like 8RL is so very important! Not only is it an excellent way to meet new friends and learn valuable life skills so many other LGBTIQ people in Leitrim and the surrounding areas find enjoyment out of it all.
Between September and October of this year, the Acting-Committee aims to have consulted with the Community and instigated a group Constitution and called an Annual General Meeting (AGM) to elect a full committee.
Dates to be announced later in the year.
The Acting-Committee has resolved to try and steer a number of events forward for 2015-16 so that the newly elected Committee will have some time to process and work up it’s own ideas. We will also be working periodically with any new committee members develop a Handover Booklet.
Personal Message From Acting-Chair, Niall Jordan:
I realise that for many people some aspects of this Open Letter may appear rather vague. I would only ask that you remain patient with us as we try to create a long-lasting group here.
I actively encourage people to suggest ideas during the Open Forum meetings or through email: lgbt.leitrim@gmail.com – as always any emails to the group will remain confidential and treated with the utmost respect.
